Top 5 Sega Genesis Games

Here are the top 5 Sega Genesis games that I own with a brief explanation as to why they are where they are.

5. Ren & Stimpy: Stimpy's Invention

What's not to love about a video game based off of the hit 90's cartoon? It's a standard platformer with an array of techniques that showcase Ren and Stimpy'e antics such as using Ren's ears as a helicopter or using Stimpy as a bowling ball. This game features a 2-player mode but using the techniques I mentioned requires both players to be standing next to each other so it's better played solo unless you have patience.

4. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

Ahh Mortal Kombat. Some of my earliest video game memories were of watching my older brother play Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the N64. While this port features dumbed down graphics and sound compared to it's arcade brother, it does feature 2 new characters Noob Saibot and Rain. It also has a cheat code to unlock the hidden character slot. You can choose between Motaro or Shao Kahn. This sequel features the same fast paced gameplay that MK3 brought but with Scorpion and more characters and some new stages. As smooth as the gameplay is, it still pales in comparison to a title higher on the list (Gee I wonder what it could be?)

3. Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Of course Sega's mascot is gonna be on any top list. This game was Tails' début and a pretty bad one at that although we all love Tails he sucked in this game. He can be frequently found dying or going off screen only to helicopter back in. Aside from that it has great fast paced, blast processing game play. As a bonus if you plug this cartridge on top of a Sonic & Knuckles cartridge, you get to play Sonic The Hedgehog 2 as Knuckles. Pretty sweet. My only complaint is any stage with water in it. I hate water

2. Mortal Kombat II

Didn't see that coming did you? MKII is widely regarded as the best of the series and rightfully so. It doesn't feature a combo system like the newer games did but it had great gameplay without any of the -ality crap. I mean don't get me wrong brutalities and what not are fun but they get complicated. All this game had was 2 fatalities and a Friendship per character and a stage fatality. Not too much to memorize. It also featured a nice medium sized selection of characters, each with unique abilities and fatalities and it featured plenty of secret characters to fight and a minigame.

1. 6-pak

AKA My first Genesis game(s). It features Sonic The Hedgehog, Streets Of Rage, Golden Axe, Columns, Super Hang-on, and Revenge Of Shinobi. The first needs no introduction. It's the first Sonic game and a great one at that. Streets of Rage and Golden Axe are two great side scrolling beat em' ups in the Genesis library. Revenge Of Shinobi was a pretty cool side scroller and no one cared about Super Hang-On but columns was a Tetris clone. Tetris is fun. This game in my opinion is one of the greatest titles for the Genesis
